Just had an encounter with a two old friends (husband wife) last nite. Ran into them at a pool hall near my house. I knew they would pass directly in front of my house on their way home (they didn't realize I had moved) and since I used to race SCCA with husband invited them to stop by on their way home for a drink. Hadn't really seen them in 4-5 years.

Hussband is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Wife is fine but I'f forgotten how much she grates on my nerves.

I digress...here's what annoys me with her and people like her: When they arrive I ask what they'd like to drink and volunteer that I have a variety of beer, spirits, wine...name your poison. Wife and I have a fully stocked bar with multiple brands of any liquor, I keep 4-8 different beer brands in the garage fridge at any given time, a variety of moderate white/red wins...nothing exotic or ultra-expensive...we just keep stuff largely for this very reason.

So husband says "A whiskey or bourbon/water if you have it." Fine...I suggest Knob Creek...he's delighted because its one of his favorites. Wife says "Oh I don't know." I ask if she wants a cocktail, wine, beer soft drink. She's still indecisive. Then she takes it upon herself to go to the bar and go thru everything on the counter. Then she opens the cabinets and starts pulling bottles out looking at them...then she begins a running commentary about how she likes this blended whiskey better than that, or what kind of single malt scotch she likes but I don't have that do I? Mind you I had 4 different mid grade scotches and I rarely drink it. I would dare say I could provide 99% of the population their adult beverage of choice on the spur of the moment. Then she starts going thru several bottles of red wine and continuing her running commentary on what she likes. Finally, since she apparently can't find anything that meets her sophisticated palate, she says "Oh..I'll just have some Absolut and tonic...you do have fresh lime?" This whole ordeal took 15-20 minutes...much of which time I ignored her.

I guess my beyotch is when I invite someone to my home for a drink, it annoys the PI$$ outta me for them to inventory, snoop and snobbishly critique my hospitality.
