I'm familiar with Sheldon Brown (RIP) and his insights. But you say you have c/f. What type of riding do you do? And where? The "nick" factor is a concern to me. Are we talking impacts from rocks and/or gravel that are strong enough to dent a steel frame? I do know deep scratches can compromise the weave, but that's about it.
