I like the suggestions keep them coming

I've been looking at 1911's, and I like the looks of the Springfields, but Souk's commentson his are not the first I've heard about quality with them. My dad is also rather frugle, so I want to get a caliber that he will shoot. I know he thinks that .45 ammo is way too expensive (his words not mine). So if it is a 1911, I think he'd use a cheaper caliber like a 9mm.

I want it to be special, but I also want him to use it, not just leave it in the cabinet.

I'm taking a look at all your suggestions so keep them coming. Some are truely beautiful, in a manly sort of way...LOL
