In my fathers old 86 chevy 4wd shortbed pickup with the 305 and the tow package (that 305 was a beast) we took it out when we first got it and It wouldn't accelerate faster than like it was on 1/4 throttle. so after messing with it we got it to go wot and it stuck there and it just kept accelerating even with both feet on the brakes it easily crept past 70 and it was a two lane road and there was a curve ahead and if you shut it off the steering would lock. so we found a side road that went straight from the main road and we shut it off as we went onto the side road. there was rust on the throttle body that caused the linkage to stick open.
My father told me a story from when he was 17 about his old fairlane that stuck but it was only moving like 3mph, so he decided to get out run along side to the engine and flick the linkage back ( he admits it wasn't a good idea) so as soon as he gets out he cant quite reach the linkage and it starts picking up speed so he cant hop back in and he watches as the steering cuts to the right and it goes down an embankment into the orchard and into an apple tree.
