Had it happen in my Toyota pickup 15 years ago. The throttle linkage on the accelerator pump was sticky, and would bind sometimes. It used to stick from time to time, I always just rode it out. After a few seconds it would usually vibrate loose. One time it didn't unstick, (~80 miles from home in the hills north of Calistoga) I just put my foot on the clutch and it shook loose at about 5,000 RPM.
I limped to a hardware store and got a screen door spring and a pack of zip ties and rigged an aux throttle return spring to make it home. That fix kept was still on the truck when I got rid of it.
