Well, the way I see it, a car is, well...just a car, and made to be driven, used, enjoyed, fixed, driven some more, worn out, rebuilt, revved to hell and back, fixed some more, worn out some more, sold/scrapped/restored, and so on. I probably wouldn't drive it if it was in show condition and I had another that serves daily driver duties, but I don't. I'm definitely a user/fixer rather than a preserver and my car shows it, but it also was never very nice looking to begin with. It's a driver's car. But those with nice weekend cars, it makes sense not to go out in it. It's definitely hard on vehicles.

I can appreciate both sides of the issue, but it makes me squirm in agony riding with someone else who babies their car excessively, not that any of us do, but we all know those kind..."but the engine's going to blow up if you go past 2000 and you'll only get 3 mpg! I want my car to last." Well, at that rate, it will rust to smitherines long before the drivetrain starts having any problems. Especially cars today are a bit better engineered in that department than old stuff 30 years ago, with the exception of German cars. Those are always good.
