There are no special tools required for the airco. The only thing that needs special equipment AND knowledge is pressurizing the system (including changes on superheat etc). There are a few things that should be done by pro's. Though if have a deal for 265, i would really advise to go to the mech. He will make sure your system works and will keep on working for a long time. If you do it yourself you might end up forgetting something and using the wrong materials. And the evaporator is not the easiest part of the airco to change.

My advice: go to the mech for 265 (300 is even a nice price, if the deal is that he will deliver you a WORKING aico).
