As I see it, many cars are quickly becoming designed as if they are no different than a washing machine or cell phone. At least the Germans are still very cognizant of the fact that these machines (which hurl down the freeway) need very well thought-out failure modes. ...not just wait for problems to arise, and then send out a software update.
