There is no question the tank could have been in a better location. But the cause of the accident causing the death of the three girls was being hit in the rear, by a much larger vehicle, without a gas cap.

Actually the case that broke the Ford Pinto was a young man who was rear ended. I remember the trial that was held in Santa Ana, CA, my home town.
