A few miles from where we stayed is a village called Baugnez, site of the Malmedy Massacre. There is a small memorial and a brandnew private museum. Very well done. The owner of the place we rented said that complete parts of forests are left untouched because of the amount of scrapnel in the wood.

I think the latest pics you posted explain it well enough.
My Uncle wore the patch at the bottom left of that monument . As did a very good friend of mine who died last spring.
And another old man at the grocery store a couple weeks ago who once was young was wearing a worn black vets cap with THIRD ARMY in front , a staff sgts. patch and campaign names on the sides. I approached and thanked him as I always do those who served.

If you are referring to the field - just the feeling I get looking at it knowing what went on around there. I have no special knowledge of it.
