Forgive the cross post...
This weekend I was once again instructing for Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP). We had a new father / son pair show up today. Not that unusual, until you consider the son had a new C-6 Z06, and the father brought his new ZR1! What a pair of phenomenal cars.
Then, as if that's not enough, who happens to show up? None other than Bill Elliot. Yes, that Bill Elliot. The Bill Elliiot of NASCAR fame. You know, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion? He's at the track helping some kin set up an ARCA car for next weekend. I and a fellow instructor wander over and talk to Bill. Bill being a true southern gentleman talks with us and autographs our helmets.
Then, as if you can't get more fortunate, John Andretti
shows up with his son at the CMP kart track. You know... The John Andretti of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series? The John Andretti of the CART series, NHRA Top Fuel, Endurance racing and more? John is at least as charismatic as Bill, providing autogpraphs and speaking with us as well.
The most memorable moment occurs when Bill realizes John was at the track. He drops what he's doing with the ARCA car, and takes off to snag a few karting laps and talk with John...
The net is this. It was a great weekend. I instructed drivers in two phenomenal cars. I met Bill Elliot. I met John Andretti. And I most likely met some future champions of motorsports...
Here's a photo of my autographed helmet. What a great weekend.
