The last black bear I took was about nine or ten years ago. It took two very well placed shots, one through each shoulder (he turned around after the first shot) from a .30-'06 loaded with 200 grain Nosler Partitions at about 2,600 fps. It still took him a good ten minutes to die.
Want that in your house? Not me. There is a big difference between killing and
stopping. Those of you who think you are going to
stop a black bear with a handgun haven't killed many of them. If there were one in my house, I'd be reaching for the .458...
