Calipers are the same for 86, 87 to 89 - what is different is the spindles and rotors. You must have the 86 Spindles and rotors for early car, and 87 Spindles and rotors for later - Then you still will have to drill these spindles for the speedo cable, or convert to electronic with the 86 - 89 spindles. On the 86 set-up the hubs are on the outside of the rotor even though the hubs are the same. On the 87 up hubs are on the inside of the rotor and are different this way so the 87 spindles and rotors are different - hubs and calipers are the same mountings 86 - 89 turbo. Which ever set you get you will need the Spindles, rotors, hubs and Calipers to convert to turbo brakes - Your early single piston brake system can then be sold to a VW racer to fit later bugs (Super Beatles) and Type II VW's (Again your old front spindles, rotors, hubs and calipers - rear calipers and rotors - will fit them).

Is this as clear as mud -
