Last November my wife got a ticket for 50 in a 35, small town in Placer Co. She had just pulled out of a parking lot, and was not, probably could not, have been going that fast as the car does not accelerate that quickly. He got a motorcycle that had just gone by on his radar, which she pointed out, "Tell it to the judge"
Went to court, cop said his thing, not CHP, Placer Co Sheriff(Omar, in OJU lingo) My wife gets her turn, asks the judge if they felt the officer's statement and the ticket were accurate. "Yes" She then points out she was driving a sedan, not a coupe, and her license was issued by Texas, not California and tells the tale as it actually happened.
"Guilty" She protests, to no avail, few hundred bucks later leaves.
Sort of cute that you guys are grownups, and yet are still naive enough to think it would matter what you said when it is your word against a cop's, and the court has a cash incentive to take the cop's word for it. You can fight the ticket, but are unlikely to win.
It is all about generating income. That protect and serve stuff just looks good on the door of the cruiser.
