I was sited last year as an act of retribution by a CHP officer who was actually in the weight control division & not the patrol division. He was going 5 mph under the speed limit (which was 55), and when we got to a passing zone (the only one for another 7 miles and only .2 mile long), I decided to pass him. He was driving a weight control van. As I tried passing, I noticed I wasn't making much progress & looked down at my speedometer. We were both going 65 mph, so he was accelerating. I had to make the decision to pass or not. There were two cars behind him, and I still had room in the passing zone, and he didn't seem to be still accelerating so I passed him & slowed back down to between 55 & 60. Five miles later when we got to a straight away, he jammed it, lit up his lights and cited me for almost 70. He ignored me when I asked why he accelerated when I tried to pass. In court, he said I had passed him at a high rate of speed and continued going. Then at the end, he had to confess his van's speedo wasn't calibrated, so the Commissioner dismissed it for insufficient evidence. He was just wanting to cause me inconvenience and hoped I would just pay the $250+ ticket.
I just sent a letter to the supervisor of the district about it as I was cleaning out my stuff held over from last year. It'll probably be round filed.
