no sir, not exactly. I don't think that way. And many non-gun owners like to use that thought in order to ridicule us that do own guns. I do not own weapons because I live in fear. I own them because that is my way of being as prepared as possible for whatever may come my way. It's the same reason I keep cash in savings, just in case I need it.
Owning weapons allows one to mount a defense when necessary. It doesn't guarantee that I 'll escape unharmed but it does guarantee that a perpetrator will be faced with equal lethality. Since most perps are cowards they prefer unarmed victims.
And I fervently hope I'll never need to use a weapon against anyone.
