whats the difference between a and m calipers?
|
A-Calipers were on the front of all 911SC models from 78 through 88. 84-88 got the "Wide" A-Caliper to fit over the 24mm rotor (commonly called the Carrera caliper). A-Calipers have 48mm pistons and 3.5" c2c mounting ear spacing. The fluid inlet is on the bottom and they have M9 fasteners.
M-Calipers - This will be fun... M-Calipers were the common steel calipers for the front of 911's from 65-77 with 48mm pistons, M8 fasteners. The fluid inlet was on the back and they have 3" c2c spacing.
They also called the later vented rear caliper an M-Caliper. These are the ones I'm looking for. Why they called these rear calipers M-Calipers, I do not know but, when the 911 line went to a more common vented solution all around these are the calipers they used. You can find them on any and all 911's from 69-70 through 83. Prior to that, the only vented rear caliper was the "Wide" L-Caliper which resided on the rear of 67-68 911S models.
I'm looking for the earlier rear M-Calipers if possible. That would be 70-73-74. The spacers are a little different, more rounded and not an exact profile match on the calipers. I'll still entertain some of the later ones (better profile on the spacer, spacers are molded with a casting line in the center of them) but the early ones are kinda what I'm looking for.
Thanks for all the PM's and offers. Canada guys... hang in there, I want to see how many I get stateside as the USPS Flat Rate boxes make this "rock". I still may grab the very nice offers from our friends up North as well.

Those would be perfect. I'll look for the email. Also, let me know about the pedals. I called and left a message last week.
Thanks all!
