About a year ago I jumped on an Akron newspaper ad which read:
" '72 911S, some upgrades, EC, $15K.... "
______________________________________
The owner-seller genuinely did not know 911's, but he did know the previous owner changed the seats and wheels to 1990's style.
When I arrived I found a miserable, soul-crushing, irretrievable hatchet-job of a 964 'conversion', including drivetrain, brakes, hood, bumpers, interior, even the steering wheel and dashboard.
Yes, a '72S had laid down its life to create this monstrosity. Original engine/trans & other parts had long since been sold off or discarded; literally the only '72S component remaining was a portion of the tub.... all of it capped off with a $199. Earl Scheib-caliber paint job.
(2) tragically funny quotes from the owner:
- (proudly) "I will include at no extra cost a 'before & after' videotape by previous owner showing all of the upgrade work as it was done..."
- (pelican vets will enjoy this) "I think my price is very reasonable-- someone called from WYOMING who is going to fly in tomorrow to buy the car."
Classic.
