I was an avid cyclist well into my 30's, until injuries kind of curtailed it for me (really hoping to get back into now, in later middle age). I logged 150-200 miles a week for a couple decades, not years. In other words, "been there, done that..."

Nowadays, I find this new generation of militant cyclist to be the most annoying ass holes on the road. I have fantasised about buying something like an old H1 Hummer, just so I can mow down as many as possible in one pass.

Fluck 'em. They have become the scourge of backroads and city streets wherever they ride. On the backroads, they ride willy-nilly four, five, six abreats, blocking the whole damn lane and refusing to move over. In the city, they split lanes, scratching the hell out of cars in the process. They run red lights, ride on the sidewalk (often the wrong way), wreaking havoc wherever they go.

It's all about this new militant attitude. The worst seem to be the downtown fixie riders with the tats and ear rings. They seem to relish pissing people off, then vanishing in traffic. I think if I ever saw one crushed under a car, I would buy the driver a beer.
