This was pretty much complete BS and Seabrook asked for it. If they'd tossed him first then the retaliation hit never would have happened. That said, the old saying goes, "the second foul is the one that gets called."
Can be kind of hard to delineate a clean and a dirty hit though. Seems that if the head is a target then it is a no-no. But there are plenty of other ways to seriously hurt another player. Kinda the point of the game actually...same with football. One reason that while I played street hockey (one of my two broken bones was in a floor hockey game in college, broke my wrist in the first period, finished the game with my wrist the size of a grapefruit), I always preferred baseball from a "game" standpoint. The violence is almost always against the ball rather than the person.
