Lost my dog

Foggie had been with us since 1994 when she was 2 years old. She was the smartest, kindest, and most gentle hearted dog I have ever known. At 18 years old, her hearing and sense of smell were nearly all gone. Her sight was suffering. Her rears legs showed signs of arthritis and her kidneys were causing her to become dehydrated, despite the amount of water she drank (which always went right through her). She would no longer lay down outside and would constantly walk in circles and she made a habit of messing in the house in her old age. Despite all this, there would be times everyday when she would act like a puppy... Barreling down the front hall at the idea of getting fed... Jumping up and down steps two at a time to get out and in. She even still looked like a puppy. This is why the decision to put her down was so tough. I cared for her most in her old age so the decision and ordeal was particularly tough on me. My family could not stay through to see the whole thing but I needed to. I wanted to be the last one she saw, not strangers. Foggie stopped breathing in my arms yesterday afternoon. She was very loved and will be missed. After 16 years I can't believe she's gone. Rest in peace, Foggie
