I have for about 10 years now. A nice pair of Wahl clippers, two mirrors, and about 15 minutes and I'm done. Just did it last night as a matter of fact.
I have a pretty simple hair "style" though. I use the #4 guard on the top (1/2"), and the #1 guard on the sides and back. I sometimes use a #2 to help blend in the transition from sides to top.
My method is, buzz the top with the #4 and get it nice and even. Then use the #2 in the transition area. Then buzz the sides and back with the #1. I can get it 99% correct without the mirror now, but I still use a hand held mirror to check out the back and touch up what I missed. I even trim up my neck with the mirror and a small set of clippers.
My hair grows fast and thick so I figure I've saved myself about $6,360 over the last 10 years. That's $12/cut, twice a month for 10 years. I'm still on my original set of clippers. I think they might have cost about $60 10 years ago.
I have a hair cutting "station" in the basement with a nice big mirror, bright lights, hand held mirror and a shop vac always at the ready.
If you didn't want a buzz cut, I suppose you could get a flowbie or whatever those things are called.
