Really glad to see you taking the challenge. I moved there with the intent of staying a year or so to get the experience... some 10+ years later returned and I loved almost every minute of it.
Make sure you make it to the Christmas Market at Nurnburg in November/December. Its well worth the drive and nothing like it here...
