I found another file that hangs auto-restore or migration every time. It is a movie file. Jeez, seems like the OS should be more graceful about "problem files". Thank goodness there wasn't a fatal problem with something like the email messages.

It was a PITA to manually restore the iMac by picking and restoring individual files/folders/applications, but IIRC I couldn't have done this at all with a Windows box, don't you have to find dozens of files for each application?
