I'm just watching the stuff my wife buys: it's gone from a focus in name brand stuff to magazines with headings like "Do more with less," "10 shopping secrets to save your family money on groceries," and the like. Real Simple magazine, Budget Travel magazine, seriously.

But I think it's mostly just capitalizing on the recession, rather than a serious trend.
