Watched it with my dad. He was a 16 year old marine on Guadalcanal. He thought they captured it pretty well, except it was dirtier, more violent and more chaotic.
Pretty much everyone had malaria. No food, high fevers, jaundice with yellow eyes. He remembers sleeping in a shallow trench with mosquito netting draped over him. As the sun came up, he would notice that the netting was black with mosquitos.
A lot more hand to hand combat than was depicted. And there was a lot more killing. 25,000 Japanese were killed on Guadalcanal.
