from the 2 engines (both a 83 and 87) i have there is not a difference in the block, camshaft, head, head nuts. the header was different as well as the coolant temp sender units, fuel rail was also set up different. im not sure about the connecting rods though i know the 83 both the rods and crankshaft were forged if that continued through to the 87+ or if it went to cast.
