For thick fur, you have to adjust the metal spike on the inside of the collar to about a 3/4" depth so it goes all the way to the skin. And use the optional 10-pack of AA's instead of the 3-pack.

Seriously, fur thickness would seem like the type of hurdle that Invisible Fence would've figured out how to conquer a long time ago. Were you using their product/s, or something you found in Pet Smart, K-Mart, etc.?
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
