I've put 30,000 miles on mine in the last two years. Not a single issue. Mine is the same color as Byron's...carnival red. not sure if his is 98 or later. 95-97 had the famous inline 6, that was supercharged with an Eaton M90. The 98 and later cars had the supercharged Lincoln LS engine.
I've got a '97, so I have the blown big-six.
You mentioned rebuilding the gearbox...that's not a weak point in these cars at all, at least for the 95-97 cars. They used the GM 4L80E (it's a TH400....same as in corvettes, hummers, and even the Ferrari 400i)
