You mentioned rebuilding the gearbox...that's not a weak point in these cars at all, at least for the 95-97 cars. They used the GM 4L80E (it's a TH400....same as in corvettes, hummers, and even the Ferrari 400i)

A 95-97 XJR will probably be my next purchase. The 4.0 inline six NA isn't exactly a slouch, the SC'd version has to be a hoot.
