If I understand you correctly, yes they are called plenums. You have one on each side of the 85-86 engine. Rad hose, if you can find the right ID should work fine to replace the original rubber connectors. I have also seen silicone hose used but if your trying to save money that's probably not the way to go.

According to the WSM plug wire resistance should be around 2.5k ohms. It seems to me that it is most commonly the insulation that breaks down on the ignition wires not the conductor. the easiest test there (if the car runs) is the water mist test in the dark to look for arcing.
