Thought in American iron that "bigger is better?"
Agree with your idea on going bigger but how about a 428 or so?

Joe have you EVER worked on a 428? I will never own a FE series motor! Unless it's a 427 just due to the fact that it's a 427
429/460 motor will fit in the Cyclone merc's engine bay! that's an engine. None of Hey, we have to take ALL 16 pushrods off to change the intake manifold! Nor does the LIMA series 429/460's have that STUPID little 1 1/2" long hose that's between the water pump and the block that you can't change with out removing the water pump!
my '66 fairlane was a 390 car, same engine series "FE" as the 428
My Dad built some wicked FE motors that lapped Riverside and Ontario Speedway fairly well.
I used to pull 7/16" studs out of the cast iron heads on my 390! FE engines rocker arms rotate on a shaft that runs the lenght of the head I broke a couple of shafts on that car as well.
I broke the fingers on the Mcleod clutch
I broke the output shaft on the toploader
I broke the rear shocks off of the car (I might have lifted the front end off of the ground on that launch
