They carefully script the questions to get the interviewee to say certain things. Then, when the interview is over, they re-edit the whole thing so it appears the interviewee is answering different questions than he as was actually asked. Often, the "questions" asked on TV were never actually asked of the interviewee in person. The Daily Show is pushing an agenda and uses intentionally dishonest tactics to get a desired result.

Finally, when they are called to task for putting words in people's mouths, heavily re-editing footage and inserting things into interviews that did not actually occur during those interviews, Jon Stewart will say that his show is comedy and not real news. This apparently gives him free reign to lie to and manipulate people, misrepresent their words, and fabricate stories all the while representing what they have done to the public as actually occurring.

(I happen to know a lady that was interviewed by the Daily Show years ago, and the questions that she was asked on TV were not the questions that she was asked in person. Look at how the camera shots are done. They always show the interviewer and the interviewee in separate frames. This is so that they can edit in anything they want after the fact.)
