I can relate... Although not the same situation as you I have witnessed many good people pass away.
My parents came to Australia in 1960 from Europe as part of the post war migration program.
My dad passed 11 years ago from the complications of diabetes.
My mum is 71 and starting to slow down a bit but otherwise OK.
The thing is a lot of people from their country came out at the same time and because of their age they are starting to die off.
The local cemetery is filling up with people we know. Every week, two or three of them pass away and my mother is always going to someone's funeral.
I go when appropriate and that happens about every 6 months.
My mum just lost her eldest sister in Europe. She would have been 84 this year.
She's the first to go of 6 siblings. Long life and all that but it's had a dramatic effect on her brothers and sisters.
The average age is about 83 for men and bit more for women.
Long lives for sure but still very sad.
