Not to hijack sidney's thread any further, but it is a ROCK SOLID design. The 1905 is the first double column detachable magazine automatic ever made.
It's never jammed on me, and even feeds modern hollowpoints. Quite a remarkable design, and even 83 years later (the one he has was made in 1927 IIRC?), the finish really shines. My only complaint with it is the trigger, which sucks. (A good trigger job would no doubt greatly improve things, but that's up to the boy to buy now.
