Those four killed near me were doing nothing wrong though, other than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their numbers were up that day and helmets would have made no difference. They were sitting at a red light and got mashed and then burned. I still keep my eyes on my mirrors at intersections and would not hesitate to blow through a red light if I saw a truck barrelling down on me. But those guys were just unlucky. I still ride over those blood and burn stains twice a day every day. I'm looking forward to moving 17 miles away and not seeing that every day anymore.
