The title of this thread is misleading. It is not, by all reports, a "4G" phone in the sense that it needs/works on one of the next-gen cellular networks that, as you point out, have not been deployed. Or even on WiMAX which some people call 4G.
Edit: I'd better clarify. We know it runs on the current-day 3G network. Can't rule out it having LTE/WiMAX-ready components too, though I think that's improbable.
