I think last year it cost about $250 to register in CA and this year was $500, so that's DOUBLE.
What is irksome about this is that unlike a fee for filing paperwork or a charge for a police detail or something like that which is justifiable and for which there's a legitimate purpose, car registration is WORTHLESS. It provides ZERO "value added" for the buyer. Think about it. What do you really get out of a registration? The "privilege" of driving YOUR car (for which you pay thousands in sales tax) using YOUR fuel (for which you pay a litany of state, local and federal taxes and it's 10% ethanol garbage anyway) on public roads which YOUR taxes paid for. Why is this necessary again? Oh yeah, the government needs more money to pay all them "po folk" who work down at the DMV so they can go get some mo' bling on their fingernails at the salon after work.
Hmmm. Decisions. Keep my CA plates (designed to maximize LIDAR reflectivity so they can charge you MORE money, incidentally) for $500 or change over to here for 100 bucks. Gee, that's a toughie.

Trust me, it did.

It's the little things in life. It was ALMOST (but not quite as) satisfying as telling my old landlord in Long Beach that he was being fired. Buh-bye.
Yes, I miss a lot about CA but not the blatant exploitation.
