Check the quality and level of the transmission fluid first. The symptoms you're describing sound like most transmission that are slipping and/or have a bad torque converter.

Does it grab well when accelerating at all? Usually the stuck in high gear isn't being stuck in high gear, it just feels like its in high gear cause there's so little grab. Take it to a reputable transmission shop and have it diagnosed. It usually takes an entire day for a real diagnoses.

The great thing about cars like yours and mine is that they are in their mid-teens, and there isn't too much science behind them anymore compared to the cars they work on today, so that labor is less and the parts are cheaper I've noticed.
