Once is never enough - and sometimes once is unachievable.
When I learned that Heraclitus once said "You can't step into the same river twice", I was impressed by the profundity of that statement regarding its relevance to one's perception of the inseparability of space, time and change.
Then, years later I read the statement of a Zen master who said "You can't step into the same river once", which struck me dumb. I think Heraclitus and he would have become fast friends.
At that instant I had an epiphany; my mind is like a river - it meanders.
Oh well, so much for profundity.
