milt - I was out futzing with plants - wacking some & planting others...

it's all an issue of how safe you want to be. I'd pull anything near food plants, but Roundup is the safest pesticide available. Note; I did not say it was really really safe.

If you/wife are young, reproductive or have kids - I'd be more cautious.

If you are 95 then who cares?

BTW - the real (potential) issue with RoundUp is the so-called "inerts" - they are NOT necessarily inert, and may cause or enhance problems for humans. They are still secret as I reall - there were a bunch of big lawsuits on this years ago, but then Monsanto changed the formulations...

FWIW - I use RoundUp in areas away from food plants, but I have no kids around & keep the dog off for a few days.

I HAVE used the real nasties before on lawns that are way infested with dandelions & other plants I don't like. I do NOT use it myself, I hire somebody. I do NOT let them weed & feed all in one mix. Instead, I have them spray using a machine with containment flaps; meanwhile I am gone when they first arrive & I take a nice 1-2 week vacation. I then stay off of it for a while & keep the dog off too. I have it fertilized with organic ferts. when possible (Oregon allows toxic metals in fertilizer(!) but Wash. state prohibits that).

next year, I revert to spot appl. of nasties or use RoundUp and just figure some grass will get killed too.

2nd & beyond years, I was able to pull all the remnants.
