cave excavations are crazy unpredictable. you have to contend with groundwater, gases, cave-in's..and ventilation. your friend is insane. when the ground goes, it rarely sends out a early warning..it just goes. any early warning, is swelling or underground guys call it "convergence". we measure it with survey equipment.
