Around 1981 I was going thru Michigan on my way home back to Vermont, it was early winter, I ran into freezing temperatures and my shins where getting numb. I pulled into a small town off of an Interstate exit ramp and across the highway was a local newspaper. This was long before the digital/internet days. I looked at the newspaper building and knew that they used the tin sheets to print the paper. I rode around the back of the building and laying out back in a huge pile were hundreds of these tin sheets. I went inside and asked if I could have one. Right there in the parking lot I used a knife and duct tape to fabricate a set of lowers on the spot. The remaining 500 miles were a lot warmer.
