I've heard countless stories of people having trouble with paypal/ebay. Usually there is a waiting period and email verification before paypal passwords/info are changed. Paypal will never ask you to verify your account info and if "they" do you can usually look in the address bar and see that its a variation of a paypal site. I.e.
www.co.paypal.com has happened to me a few times but I caught it like you. I wouldn't be too worried about your bank accounts as long as your paypal is secure now with a new password.
