I'm in Denver for a conference. Tonight I had the pleasure of having dinner at a really nice restaurant (Elways) with someone that I first started working with 30 or so years ago. I've seen him a few times since then, but not had dinner. What a wonderful experience. He and I worked in a consulting firm a couple of decades ago, and I remember eating at McDonalds with him then when we had nothing. Having a $100 dinner, drinking fine wine and having prime rib we caught up. As consultants, I'd gotten some business leads from him and he got a very big one from me 10 years ago when I left consulting and joined Disney, I introduced him to my other studio clients, Paramount, Universal, Dreamworks, Sony, Fox and the other networks, CBS and NBC (we own ABC). Wanting to leave my former clients in the best of hands, I introduced them to my "Best Competitor". 30 years later, I can see how I went from nothing to something. 30 years ago I couldn't imagine a $200 tab for dinner and us "arguing" over who was going to pick up the tab
. Sorry to ramble, but it was a sweet moment in my life.
