Billy, the voice of reason, who would have thought?
There was a time when they were not called "Pit Bulls," they were referred to as "American Pit Bull Terriers" and they were FAR and away the most popular dogs kept as pets in this country(ever see "Our Gang?") They were, and still are, very loyal and protective. They were, and still are excellent family pets.
Over time, they were bred for aggressiveness and, in certain groups, used for fighting, kept as status symbols, abused, neglected. You know what the number one breed in animal shelters is? Pit bull and pit bull mix.
Problems that occur with any dog are 100% the fault of the owner in every single instance. To think otherwise is akin to blaming kool aid for that Jim Jones mass suicide in Guyana. I know literally hundreds of people with pits and do not know of a single one who had a problem, ever. I happen to know a lot of responsible dog owners.
