The hopes for serious open-wheel racing in this country died with Champ Car/CART.
The Atlantic Series is fun, but will never be mainstream - the cars aren't powerful enough.
The IRL is a friggin' joke.
It's another casualty of the U.S. economy the way I see it. Why should F1 come here (or subsidize us to go there) when there are far more lucrative markets with far more money emerging (i.e. China, the middle east, SE Asia, etc.)? Those guys can "pay to play" and we can't.
