You have to love it. Everyone smokes there.

And you can bet the kid is smoking Kreteks (Indonesian clove cigarettes) as well. Each one of those has the nicotine content of 40 red Marlboros.

I lived in Indonesia for a few years in the 1980's. They had a cigarette they sold openly that was mixed with marijuana, which was widely smoked by people with very menial jobs. Unfortunately this included taxi-drivers. I have been on more insane, lunatic rides through Jakarta than I care to remember.

In the late 1980's there was a move to put warning labels on cigarettes, but the government nixed this on the basis if less people died from smoking, the health and social services in Indonesia would collapse completely. At least they were honest about it.
