Unless i think its a mugging/rape/woman battering situation, i do not get involved in fights. I worked plenty of years in bars where i HAD to get involved, and have taken many inadvertant shots and sucker punches over it, and usually the person getting their ass whipped deserved it.

You got that totally backwards. The US has a more than decade long trend of
declining violence, from the highs of the early 90s.
I would not intervene because the dude getting his ass kicked might very well deserve it.
