Docs: delayed bruise

During our standard Sunday "Tour de Taco", my riding buddy and I crashed. I was behind, he was in front, I was distracted by a model-A Ford and another car crossed in front of us. My buddy jammed the brakes on and I slammed into him at full speed. Him, nothing, pushed a little. Me? Bike flipped and face/chest down on the ground.

The worst initial damage was a small skinned knee. I didn't feel much, and we decided to finish out the ride, after straightening out my brifters.

After the ride, no real bruising and just a little more cramping than normal. 2 days later, I'm now seeing the bruises develop and one area, that doesn't hurt/never hurt, has a huge "port wine stain" kinda thing going on. What is the deal with this delayed bruising?
